Marine aquarium, a lifetime’s pleasure

There are so many different reasons why one would choose to construct a Marine Aquarium. Here, at Marine Tank, we have attempted to understand what lies behind a person’s motivation to start the, sometimes complicated, process of replicating a sea environment just to be able to see fish and sea life in a smaller encased version of their natural habitat. Of course, there are massive marine aquariums which answer the call for research and greater understanding of our natural world, especially our underwater world, which holds far greater mysteries than anything on land. The sea remains one of the great uncharted, unexplored and unknown parts of our globe, and we have many museums, research institutions, and universities, providing learning and practice for students of evolution, social behaviour and species control in an attempt to understand it more. It is also easy to understand why we like to build a public freshwater and marine aquarium in our towns and cities, so that everybody from the elderly to small children can gain pleasure from seeing the wonders of the life that is held in Earth’s water systems.

It is less easy to understand the individual enthusiast who has many complex reasons for building a marine aquarium in his, or her, own private dwelling, which could be anything from a great mansion, to a small apartment.  A desire for a marine tank could simply be the need to have a beautiful living seascape to show off to visitors, it could be to bring relaxation into a particular room – it is no coincidence that dentists tend to put small aquariums in their waiting rooms as its gently moving inhabitants calm their nervous patients before treatment – especially if  life is hectic, it may be  to satisfy an infinite curiosity about all life forms and a wish to conduct  personal studies of the different sea creatures in our world in a private capacity.  It may simply be that the family have always had marine aquariums and this has passed on from generation to generation, or simply a passion has developed in youth that has lasted a life time and is an engaging hobby.

Whatever the reason for building a marine aquarium everybody has to obey some simple rules. The final product must be fit for supporting the life within it. It is wise to study some simple step-by-step guides to become familiar with what is needed to construct a marine tank and to know the order in which to go about it. Basically, as a speed of light run-through, this is the accepted list and order of needs:  tank, lighting, filtration system – pump, skimmer, and sump, heater and chiller units, water and sand – either way round,  marine live rock (cycle it), cleaner-creatures such as hermit crabs and snails, and then reef fish. At a later stage coral can be added if desired. Here at Marine Tank, we are an official outlet for product and equipment sourced by Aqua Medic UK and we feel confident of its reliability, and high quality. As suppliers for your marine aquarium needs we are pleased to offer our customers the very best that we can and hope they will keep visiting our website for the very latest in equipment to support all marine tanks, large or small, and to enjoy a lifetime of watching, or studying, marine life.
